ApplicationContext is Spring's IoC container — it reads configuration, instantiates beans, injects dependencies, and manages their lifecycle. BeanFactory is its lower-level parent; ApplicationContext adds AOP, event publishing, i18n, and resource loading. In practice you always use ApplicationContext.
