La cadena es inmutable: cada operación crea un nuevo objeto. La concatenación repetida produce muchos objetos temporales y una presión de GC innecesaria. StringBuilder y StringBuffer resuelven esto: son mutables, operan en una matriz de caracteres interna y no producen cadenas intermedias.
