Una función exponencial tiene la forma y=axy=a^x, donde aa es un número fijo positivo, a1a\neq1, y xx es la variable independiente (el exponente). En la escuela, una base positiva a>0a>0 coincide con el significado de axa^x para cualquier real xx: para x=nZx=n\in\mathbb{Z} recuperas potencias enteras; para fraccionario xx — raíces y potencias de secciones anteriores. Dominio: D(y)=RD(y)=\mathbb{R}. Rango: E(y)=(0;+)E(y)=(0;+\infty) — un exponencial nunca llega a cero y nunca toma valores negativos. Punto obligatorio: (0;1)(0;1), desde a0=1a^0=1 para a>0a>0.
