Un límite finito en x0: f(x) se asienta de manera estable en un número L como x se toma arbitrariamente cerca de x0 (a menudo x0 no es necesario acostarse D(f) — sólo importa la cercanía dentro del conjunto donde la función ya está definida).
Límites unilaterales x→x0−, x→x0+ acercamiento por la izquierda o por la derecha. El límite (bilateral) es igual aL si y sólo si ambos límites unilaterales existen y son iguales L.
Límites al infinito: x→+∞ o x→−∞ — la misma idea, pero “cercanía a ∞” significa hacer x magnitud arbitrariamente grande en la dirección requerida.
