TCP está orientado a la conexión: ambos extremos acuerdan los números de secuencia iniciales (ISN) y los tamaños de ventana antes de que fluyan los datos. El protocolo de enlace de tres vías (SYN → SYN-ACK → ACK) también permite que cada lado conozca el búfer de recepción del otro y evite estados medio abiertos.
