Thai as an isolating language

Thai belongs to the isolating (analytic) type: grammatical meaning is expressed mainly by analytic means—word order, function words, and intonation—rather than by changing the form of words. In the European sense there are no inflections: no declension, conjugation, gender, number, case, or agreement. The grammar is transparent but heavily dependent on context and on how a word sits in the sentence.
