Identité logarithmique de base
Laissez a>0a>0, a1a\neq1, b>0b>0. À partir de logab=c  ac=b\log_a b=c\ \Leftrightarrow\ a^c=b suivent deux identités serrées : alogab=ba^{\log_a b}=b — l'identité logarithmique de base : baseaa « annule » loga\log_a sur positif bb. Forme miroir : loga(ac)=c\log_a(a^c)=c pour tout cRc\in\mathbb{R} (le journal « coupe » l'alimentation aca^c exposant sortant cc). Pour a=10a=10: 10lgb=b10^{\lg b}=b ; pour a=ea=e: elnb=be^{\ln b}=b.
