Fonctions trigonométriques d'un argument réel
En 10e année sin⁡x\sin x, cos⁡x\cos x, tan⁡x\tan x, cot⁡x\cot x sont traités comme des fonctions d'un argument réel xx (en radians sauf indication contraire) : chacun xx se voit attribuer une valeur du cercle unité — l'extrémité d'un arc de longueur ∣x∣|x|à partir de(1;0)(1;0) (avec signe pour le sens de rotation). Alors sin⁡x\sin x et cos⁡x\cos x sont les coordonnées y et x de ce point ; tan⁡x\tan x et cot⁡x\cot x sont des rapports des coordonnées (là où définis).
L'argument xx est un nombre sur le cercle (radians), pas seulement un angle aigu dans un triangle
