Le symbole ∫f(x)dx désigne l'ensemble de toutes les primitives de f sur l'intervalle considéré. On écrit aussi
∫f(x)dx=F(x)+C,
si F′=f partout où l'intégrale est considérée.
Intégrale définie : si f est allumé en continu [a;b] et F est une primitive sur (a;b) étendu en continu jusqu'à [a;b], alors
∫abf(x)dx=F(b)−F(a).
Le côté droit s'écrit souvent F(x)∣ab.
