Theme and rheme

In Thai, as in other analytic languages, theme–rheme division plays a key role in organizing utterances. Because Thai lacks a rich case system and grammatical relations are expressed mainly through word order and intonation, the theme–rheme distinction carries not only informational but also syntactic weight.
