Backups are copies of data at a point in time; PITR replays WAL (Postgres) or transaction logs to restore to an exact timestamp. Automate full + incremental schedules, encrypt at rest and in transit, and test restores quarterly—an untested backup is a wish. RPO/RTO define how much data loss and downtime you accept.
