High availability: replication and failover
Replication copies writes from a primary to standby nodes—asynchronous is simpler but can lose recent commits on failover; synchronous trades latency for durability. Automatic failover (Patroni, cloud RDS Multi-AZ) reduces human error. Clients should use connection strings or proxies that follow the current primary.
