SHA-1 Hashing and Content-Addressable Storage

The digital fingerprint of your code

In a normal file system, a file is found by its path (/users/doc.txt). In Git, a file is found by its content. If you change even a single comma, the file gets a new “address.” That address is a 40-character string produced by the SHA-1 algorithm.
