Async style differs most: Kotlin coroutines and suspend compile to callbacks/state machines; Java traditionally uses threads, thread pools, CompletableFuture (Java 8), and since Java 21 virtual threads make blocking-looking code cheap at scale. Same goal — not wasting OS threads on waiting.
