Inheritance and the open Keyword

Kotlin defaults to a quiet kind of safety: classes are final — nobody subclasses you unless you explicitly invite them with open. That sounds strict, but it saves you from surprise overrides in large codebases. When you do want inheritance, mark the base open and the child override.
