File Ownership (chown, chgrp)

chown changes user and/or group ownership of files. chgrp changes only the group. Only root (or capabilities) may hand ownership to another user — normal users cannot steal files by chown. Typical pattern after copying files as root: chown -R appuser:appgroup /srv/myapp.
