Vim is an improved version of the classic vi editor, present on almost every Unix system. It is modal: in Normal mode keys move the cursor and run commands; in Insert mode keys type text. That distinction confuses newcomers but enables very fast editing once muscle memory develops.
ℹ️If you are stuck: press Esc to return to Normal mode, then type :q! and Enter to quit without saving (discard changes).
