Definition of logarithm
If a>0, a=1, b>0, the logarithm of b to base a is the number c such that ac=b.
Write: c=logab (“log base a of b equals c”).
Uniqueness: for fixed a,b, c is unique (because ax is strictly monotone on R for a>0, a=1).
Domain of the symbol logab in b: only b>0. Base a: only a>0 and a=1.
Read logab=c as the inverse question to ac=b
