Parentheses. Procedure

In math, parentheses show which operation to do first. You work out the expression inside the parentheses before the rest. For example: (2+3)×4=5×4=20(2+3)\times 4 = 5\times 4 = 20. If you remove the parentheses: 2+3×4=2+12=142 + 3\times 4 = 2 + 12 = 14 — the result is different! Parentheses change the order of operations.
Do the operation inside parentheses first
Then multiplication and division
Finally addition and subtraction
Example: (83)+2=5+2=7(8-3)+2 = 5+2 = 7
Practice choosing the order
