In math, parentheses show which operation to do first. You work out the expression inside the parentheses before the rest. For example: (2+3)×4=5×4=20. If you remove the parentheses: 2+3×4=2+12=14 — the result is different! Parentheses change the order of operations.
Do the operation inside parentheses first
Then multiplication and division
Finally addition and subtraction
Example: (8−3)+2=5+2=7
Practice choosing the order
