Techniques for adding and subtracting in a column without going through the rank

How do we write examples in columns?

For column addition and subtraction we write one number under the other: ones under ones, tens under tens. We work in the ones place first, then the tens. If, when adding, the sum in the ones place is less than 10, there is no regrouping (no carry). If, when subtracting, the digit on top in each place is not less than the digit below, we do not need to borrow.
Write ones under ones, tens under tens
Compute the ones place first, then the tens
Without regrouping — each place gives a single digit in the usual way
Example: 34+25=5934+25=59 (3+2=53+2=5 tens, 4+5=94+5=9 ones)
Column addition (no regrouping)
