Distributive property

The distributive property

The distributive property of multiplication lets you multiply a sum by a number in parts: (a+b)×c=a×c+b×c(a+b)\times c=a\times c+b\times c. For example, (5+3)×4=5×4+3×4=20+12=32(5+3)\times 4=5\times 4+3\times 4=20+12=32. It makes mental math easier and helps in word problems.
(a+b)×c=a×c+b×c(a+b)\times c=a\times c+b\times c
Simplifies calculations
For a difference: (ab)×c=a×cb×c(a-b)\times c=a\times c-b\times c
