Dividing a sum and checking
To divide a sum by a number, you can divide each addend by that number and add the quotients — (a+b)÷c=a÷c+b÷c when a and b are both divisible by c with no remainder. For example: (12+6)÷3=12÷3+6÷3=4+2=6. You can check division with multiplication: 6×3=18, and we started with 12+6=18 — correct.
(a+b)÷c=a÷c+b÷c
Check: quotient×divisor=dividend
Example: (30+15)÷5=30÷5+15÷5=6+3=9
