Dividing a sum by a number. Checking division

Dividing a sum and checking

To divide a sum by a number, you can divide each addend by that number and add the quotients — (a+b)÷c=a÷c+b÷c(a+b)\div c=a\div c+b\div c when aa and bb are both divisible by cc with no remainder. For example: (12+6)÷3=12÷3+6÷3=4+2=6(12+6)\div 3=12\div 3+6\div 3=4+2=6. You can check division with multiplication: 6×3=186\times 3=18, and we started with 12+6=1812+6=18 — correct.
(a+b)÷c=a÷c+b÷c(a+b)\div c=a\div c+b\div c
Check: quotient×divisor=dividend\text{quotient}\times\text{divisor}=\text{dividend}
Example: (30+15)÷5=30÷5+15÷5=6+3=9(30+15)\div 5=30\div 5+15\div 5=6+3=9
