Long division (the standard written algorithm): write the dividend digit by digit under the “house”; the divisor goes outside; the quotient goes on top. At each step you write the product (a digit of the quotient × divisor), subtract under the partial dividend, and bring down the next digit. Steps: 1) Form the first partial dividend — enough digits from the left so the number is at least the divisor. 2) Estimate a digit of the quotient, multiply by the divisor, subtract. 3) Bring down the next digit of the dividend and repeat until you run out of digits.
1. Partial dividend
2. Pick a digit of the quotient
3. Multiply and subtract
4. Bring down the next digit
