A part of a whole is what you get when the whole is split into equal pieces. Each piece is one part. For example, 21 (one half), 31 (one third), 41 (one fourth). The larger the denominator, the smaller each part. To find a fraction of a number, divide the number by the denominator and multiply by the numerator. For example, 41 of 20: 20÷4=5.
21 — one half
31 — one third
41 — one fourth
Part of a number: (number ÷ denominator) × numerator
