Million. Million class. Billion

A million is a thousand thousands: 1000000=1000×10001\,000\,000 = 1000\times 1000. The three places on the right are still the ones period, the next three are the thousands period, and the next three to the left are the millions period. That makes it easy to read a number in chunks: how many millions, how many thousands, then the “tail” up to 999. A billion is a thousand millions: 1000000000=1000×10000001\,000\,000\,000 = 1000\times 1\,000\,000. In the place-value chart it is the fourth block of three digits (after the millions period). In this lesson the focus is being comfortable with the millions period and the full ladder of the first three periods.
