Comparing fractions with the same denominators

If two fractions have the same denominator, the whole was split into the same number of equal parts. Then you only compare how many parts were taken — the numerators. For am\frac{a}{m} and bm\frac{b}{m}: - if a>ba>b, then am>bm\frac{a}{m}>\frac{b}{m}; - if a<ba<b, then am<bm\frac{a}{m}<\frac{b}{m}; - if a=ba=b, the fractions are equal. On a picture this looks like “more or fewer shaded parts with the same subdivision of the whole”.
Same denominator → compare numerators
Larger numerator — larger fraction
Equal numerators with equal denominators → equal fractions
