A percent is one hundredth of a whole: 1%=11001\%=\frac{1}{100}. So p%p\% of a number aa is found as: ap100a\cdot\frac{p}{100}. For example, 15%15\% of 200200: 20015100=30200\cdot\frac{15}{100}=30. Percents describe parts of a whole in a compact way: discounts, growth, poll results, statistics.
