A ratio of two quantities shows how many times one “fits” into the other or how they compare in size. You can write it with a colon (a:b) or as a fraction ba (if b=0).
You can simplify a ratio by dividing both numbers by their GCD. If the parts refer to one whole (a+b), each part is a fraction of the whole; it is convenient to express that in percents.
a:b and ba — two notations for the same comparison idea
Simplifying: divide a and b by GCD(a,b)
Share of a in the sum a+b — in percent: a+ba⋅100%
