A number line is a straight line with a chosen origin (point 0), a positive direction, and a unit length. Every number has its coordinate — the position of the corresponding point on the line.
Opposite numbers are the same distance from 0 but on different sides of the origin. The absolute value is the distance from 0 (it is never negative).
