Adding Negative Numbers

When you add two negative numbers, add their absolute values and put a minus sign in front: (a)+(b)=(a+b)(-a)+(-b)=-(a+b) for a,b>0a,b>0. On a number line this looks like two moves to the left: the point ends up farther from zero on the negative side.
The sum of two negatives is always negative
Add the absolute values: x+y=x+y|x+y|=|x|+|y| for two negatives
On the line: both steps go left
