Subtraction (the rule for replacing subtraction with addition)

Any subtraction of integers is replaced by adding the opposite: ab=a+(b)a-b=a+(-b). After that substitution, use the usual rules of addition. This trick is universal: it works for positive and negative numbers alike.
Main rule: ab=a+(b)a-b=a+(-b)
After replacing subtraction, use addition rules
Subtracting a negative means adding a positive
