Multiplying numbers with different signs. Multiplying Negative Numbers

When multiplying integers, a simple sign rule applies: same signs give a positive result, different signs give a negative result. After fixing the sign, multiply the absolute values. So (a)(b)=ab(-a)\cdot(-b)=ab, and (a)b=(ab)(-a)\cdot b=-(ab) for a,b>0a,b>0.
Same signs → positive product
Different signs → negative product
ab=ab|a\cdot b|=|a|\cdot|b|
