Expanding parentheses

Expanding parentheses rests on the distributive property: a(b+c)=ab+aca(b+c)=ab+ac. If there is a plus in front of the parentheses, the signs inside stay the same: +(ab)=ab+(a-b)=a-b. If there is a minus, flip every sign inside: (ab)=a+b-(a-b)=-a+b.
Plus in front of parentheses — keep the signs inside
Minus in front of parentheses — flip the signs inside
A factor in front of parentheses multiplies each term inside
