Function y = ax², its properties and graph

Definition
The quadratic function in the simplest form is y=ax2y=ax^2, where xx is the independent variable and aa is a nonzero parameter (a0a\neq0; otherwise y=0y=0 is constant, with no "bowl" of a parabola). The graph is the set of points (x,y)(x,y) in the plane. For y=ax2y=ax^2 it is a parabola with vertex at the origin.
a0a\neq0 is required
If a>0a>0 the branches open upward; if a<0a<0 — downward
