Why the domain (DAV) is mandatory
In equations with the variable in a denominator, first write the domain of admissible values (DAV): all x for which no denominator is zero.
After algebraic steps extraneous roots may appear, so the final answer is always checked against the DAV.
Plan: DAV → multiply by the LCD → solve the resulting equation → check each candidate against the DAV
