Every three-digit number can be written as a sum of hundreds, tens, and ones. For example: 728=700+20+8728=700+20+8. That is called expanded form (or decomposing by place value). It helps you see what the number is made of and can make calculations easier.
345=300+40+5345=300+40+5
609=600+0+9=600+9609=600+0+9=600+9
